Independent mental health advocate

Service regulations require that “the service provider must ensure that at all times a sufficient number of suitably qualified, trained, skilled, competent and experienced staff are deployed to work at the service”.

The suitable qualifications are included on this framework.

Please note: Independent Mental Health Advocates who hold the Level 3 Certificate/Diploma in Independent Advocacy qualification for another pathway i.e. adults, children and young people or mental capacity would be expected to complete the competency framework.

This qualification is significantly smaller than the independent advocacy qualification developed for Wales. Therefore, Independent Mental Health Advocates who hold the City and Guilds Level 4 Independent Advocacy Practice qualification would be expected to complete the relevant pathway and legislation sections of the competency framework for their new role.
