New adult protection and support order training materials available

| Bethan Price

A new suite of bilingual training materials on adult protection and support orders (APSOs) has been added to the Hub.

The materials support the implementation of APSOs, which were introduced as part of the change in safeguarding practice under Part 7 of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. The resources can be used to train new officers and refresh the knowledge of existing authorised officers and legal officers or other important roles.

The training module and activities aim to provide learners with a robust understanding of the law on implementing APSOs, as well as to make sure they’re used consistently across Wales and in-line with the principles of the Act. They include a training module, an authorised officer process document, activities and handouts.

The resources were developed by Research in Practice for Adults and the Institute of Public Care at Oxford Brookes University. Forty-four authorised officers and 22 legal officers from across Wales received training based on these materials by Research in Practice in October 2016.

An e-learning version of the training module, which will be required by new authorised officers, will be made available on the Care Council’s Learning Zone in the next few months.
